Leanne disappeared after a shopping trip in the centre of the city on 26 November 2000. Her body was found in woods several miles away, nine months later.
Leanne's mother Sharon Hawkhead - who described Leanne as a happy, confident and streetwise girl - said the family was in a "living hell".
I recall the news events when they were orignally broadcast, and was reminded of the events after watching the sad documentary on this (someones daughter, someones son). Seeing your family made me think that this type of horrible, life scarring event can happen to anyone, as your family kind of remind of me of my family. You are all coping admirably, and although im sure you wish things could be different, a lot of people are gaining strength from watching how you are all coping with such dignity.
I hope you gain strength from these comments.

i am currently writing a journal for my daughter and your name cropped up, i am remembering my earliest childhood memories and i remember sharing a room with you when staying over on a school residesial at cober hill we had such an amazing time and had a real giggle i thank u for that. Message for parents!
I felt moved by the programe with reference to your beautiful daughter Leanne. On watcing the program, I observed Leanne's Father's visit to the woods. He expressed the "ROBIN", has been at the woods and I felt compelled to let you know, I experience the robin when I visit my father's grave in knock Ireland. I concur the same. Yes the Robin's always there and this gives me strength to cope with his sudden death in 1999.
It gives me strength because if you research the history of the robin, that's why you always see it close to your beautiful daughter!
Sorry for your loss and I hope you find renewed strength to cope with your loss.

when i heard on the news about leanne going missing i prayed for her safe return then when i heard she had been murdered it makes you think what sick and weird people are living on our streets and what they get out of doing such bad things by taking someones life hope john taylor rots in prison for the way he took a young persons life away i thoughts go out to leannes family. god bless ya

Well to be straight I didn't even know of dear Leanne until I watched a recent TV Program about her & I shrank with horror & anger at what that despicable excuse of a human being did to poor Leanne!!! What on earth had that Beautiful Girl done???.... to that disgusting animal for him to have cut her life short like it was just nothing.... I really hope someone gets him in prison!!! My Heart go`s out to Leanne's Brave Family Relatives & Friends alike!!! God Bless Leanne's Soul forever!!!!
